Cuttack RTO Slaps ₹10 Lakh Fine on Passenger Bus for Operating Without Documents

Bhubaneswar: In a strong enforcement action, the Cuttack Regional Transport Office (RTO) has imposed a hefty fine of ₹10 lakh on a passenger bus named Shivshankar for operating without the mandatory documents required under the Motor Vehicles Act.
The penalty was levied on Wednesday after RTO officials found the bus plying without a valid fitness certificate, insurance, permit, and pollution under control (PUC) certificate. The absence of these essential documents led the transport authorities to take immediate and strict action to ensure passenger safety and regulatory compliance.
The bus owner has been directed to pay the fine in full in order to release the seized vehicle. Officials said the violation posed a significant threat to public safety and demonstrated a complete disregard for transport laws.
The Cuttack RTO’s crackdown serves as a stern warning to all vehicle operators to keep their documents up to date and ensure that vehicles are roadworthy. Authorities emphasized that such strict measures are necessary to prevent accidents and uphold safety standards on Odisha’s roads.
