Crime Branch Probes Gopalpur Beach Gang Rape, Terms Case ‘Red Flag’

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Crime Branch has formally taken over the investigation into the horrific gang rape incident that occurred at Gopalpur beach in Ganjam district, categorizing the case as a “Red Flag” crime.

A high-level team led by IG Shyni S visited the crime scene to collect preliminary evidence and oversee the probe. The investigation is being carried out by the Crime Against Women and Children Wing of the Crime Branch under her direct supervision.

Earlier, the Berhampur police had arrested all the accused, including four juveniles, for their involvement in the assault. According to police reports, the victim and her male friend were overpowered by the accused at the beach, after which the woman was brutally gang-raped.

Odisha’s Minister of Commerce and Transport, Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, condemned the incident and assured the public that strict and exemplary action will be taken against the culprits to ensure justice for the survivor.
