Constable arrested for attempting to rape minor girl

Sambalpur: A police constable has been arrested on charges of attempting to rape a minor girl in Bareipali area of Odisha’s Sambalpur district.
The arrested police constable, identified as Biranchi Munda, reportedly took the 14-year-old girl, who is said to be his relative, to show her the Sital Sasthi festival on Sunday but attempted to rape her in an isolated place.
However, the girl managed to escape from his clutches of Munda and narrated her ordeal to the family members after reaching home.
A tension prevailed in the locality after the news got spread among the local residents who demanded arrest of the accused constable. Later, they helped the family members to file a complaint at the Bareipali Police station, where the accused is posted.
Soon, after the family member lodged a complaint against Munda, police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and started an investigation.
After recording the girl’s statement and sending her for medical examination, cops arrested Munda and forwarded him to the court.
Meanwhile, the villagers also demanded adequate compensation for the victim girl.
