Conman posing as police dupes Rs 1.64 lakh from woman

Bhubaneswar: A young woman was duped of lakhs of rupees by a conman posing as a police in Bhubaneswar under Khandagiri police limits. The man identified himself as a police office and established a relationship with her through social media.
The conman has been identified as Pratap Kumar Dash.
According to information, the conman met her through online and introduced himself as a special squad member of the police department. He also assured that he would divorce his wife and settle down with her.
Promising her of a better future he took Rs 1.64 lakh from the woman to make arrangements for their marriage and to settle down in an urban area.
However, he did not return the money even after the woman asked for it repeatedly. He instead abused her and threatened to kill her.
Finding no other resolute, the young woman lodged a complaint in this regard at the Khandagiri police station. The police then sent his complaint to several police stations and the Cuttack Lalbagh police nabbed the accused from Nayagarh. He was found to be in possession of Rs 30,000.
The Commissionerate Police is investigating the matter and is trying to find out if there are any such cases registered against him in any other police stations in the state.
In another incident, the Cuttack unit of the Commissionerate Police arrested a fake Police Inspector for duping job aspirants on pretext of securing them different kinds of posts in the police department.
The arrested fake Police Inspector has been identified as Gundicha Dalai of Nuapatana village under Tigiria Police station of Cuttack district.
Police also seized a Laptop, 5 mobile phones, fake Identity Cards, Police Inspector Uniform, Police Cup, Name Plate Stars and Logo along with Police Inspector rubber stamp and Cheque Books from Dalai’s possessions.
