Congress MLA Sagar Das Backs Youth Congress Protest Over US Trade Deal

Bhubaneswar: Congress MLA Sagar Das on Monday openly extended support to Youth Congress members who staged a protest during a recent summit, claiming their actions were instrumental in drawing attention to concerns surrounding the US trade deal.
Speaking to the media, Das said the party stands firmly behind the Youth Congress activists who “bravely went to the summit and discreetly opened their shirts” as a mark of protest. He praised their courage, stating that their demonstration highlighted serious apprehensions about the impact of the newly signed trade agreement.

“We are openly protesting and in support of the Youth Congress members. We really greet them and regard the courage and braveness they showed,” Das said.
The Congress leader alleged that the US trade deal would have severe consequences on key sectors of the Indian economy. He warned that the farming community, textile industries, and other associated sectors could face significant setbacks under the new trade policy.
Das further claimed that the agreement could lead to economic distress among farmers and small-scale industries, arguing that the government failed to adequately safeguard domestic interests before signing the deal.
The ruling dispensation, however, has maintained that the trade agreement will boost economic growth and strengthen bilateral relations. The development has sparked political debate, with opposition leaders demanding greater transparency and consultation over international trade decisions.
