College Student Arrested with Ganja Near Agriculture Office in Digapahandi

Digapahandi: The Excise Department seized a large quantity of ganja and arrested a college student near the Agriculture Office in Digapahandi in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

According to reports, the contraband was being transported on a motorcycle when Excise officials intercepted the vehicle during a routine check. Upon inspection, the officials recovered a significant quantity of ganja from the possession of the rider.

The arrested youth has been identified as 19-year-old Binaya Raita, a resident of Halapanka village under Mohana police limits in neighbouring Gajapati district.

Sources said drug traffickers are increasingly adopting new tactics to transport ganja by luring innocent college students with money and using them as carriers to evade suspicion.

Meanwhile, local intellectuals and residents have urged the Excise Department not to limit the investigation to the arrest of the student alone. They have demanded a thorough probe to identify and apprehend the masterminds behind the illegal ganja trade, who are allegedly exploiting young students for trafficking.
