Cold Wave to Intensify Across Odisha; Night Temperatures to Drop Further

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is bracing for a sharper dip in temperatures as a severe cold wave is expected to sweep across the state over the next few days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), night temperatures may fall by up to 4°C in the coming four days.
As per the forecast, temperatures in coastal and central Odisha, including Bhubaneswar, are likely to drop by another 1°C on December 7. A brief rise of 1–2°C is expected on December 8, before the mercury dips again from December 9.

Several interior and western districts — Phulbani, Boudh, Angul, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Rourkela, Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Kandhamal — are set to experience notably low temperatures today. Dense fog has also been predicted in Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Jharsuguda, Balangir, and Sonepur.
On Tuesday, G Udayagiri recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 9.8°C, followed by Daringbadi (10°C), Chipilima (11.7°C), Phulbani (12°C), Jharsuguda (12.1°C), and Rourkela (12.2°C).
In the twin cities, Cuttack recorded 14.8°C, while Bhubaneswar logged 16.4°C. IMD officials noted that Jharsuguda’s minimum temperature was 1.4°C below normal, reflecting the strengthening cold wave conditions across Odisha.
