Cold Wave Grips Odisha: Temperatures Dip Below 12°C in Over 10 Places

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is experiencing a strong cold wave as temperatures continue to plummet across the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the chilly conditions are expected to persist for the next four days, with the mercury likely to drop below 12°C in more than 10 locations.
The cold wave is particularly severe in the northern and interior districts. Kandhamal remains the coldest region, with G. Udayagiri recording the lowest temperature at 5.4°C. Semiliguda followed closely with 7.4°C, marking one of the coldest nights of the season. Overall, 13 cities reported minimum temperatures below 12°C, indicating a widespread fall in night temperatures.

Several key regions saw significant temperature drops. Daringbadi recorded 7°C, while Phulbani shivered at 8°C. Rourkela and Jharsuguda registered 10.2°C and 10.6°C respectively, while Angul and Keonjhar reported similar chilly conditions at 10.6°C and 10.8°C. Other places such as Chipilima, Kirei, Bhawanipatna, Koraput, and Nabarangapur also experienced minimum temperatures ranging between 11°C and 11.6°C.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are also witnessing their coldest spell of the season. Bhubaneswar recorded a minimum temperature of 12.9°C, while Cuttack stood at 13.6°C. IMD noted that Bhubaneswar’s temperature dropped by 3°C in just two days—from 16°C on Thursday to 13°C on Saturday. The city is currently 6.4°C below normal, whereas Cuttack is 5.1°C below its usual temperature.
IMD has forecast that these cold wave conditions will continue for the next four days. A slight rise of 2–3°C in minimum temperatures may be expected only after this period, offering some relief across the state.
