Coal Truck Gutted in Fire After Accident on Rampela Bridge

Jharsuguda: A coal-laden truck was completely gutted after it met with a major accident on Rampela Bridge under the jurisdiction of Banaharpali police station in Jharsuguda district on Saturday.
According to sources, the truck, which was carrying coal to the Sahajbahal unit of JSW, lost balance while crossing the bridge and rammed into the side wall. Following the collision, a fire broke out in the engine compartment and quickly spread, engulfing the entire vehicle.

The driver reportedly managed to jump out in time and narrowly escaped the blaze. He sustained minor injuries and is stated to be out of danger.
Upon receiving information, personnel from Banaharpali police station and the fire department rushed to the spot. Firefighters managed to douse the flames, but by then the truck had been reduced to ashes.
The incident led to temporary disruption of traffic on the bridge, a vital link connecting Jharsuguda and Sambalpur districts. The Rampela Bridge, which spans the Ib River, a tributary of the Mahanadi river system, is frequently used by heavy commercial vehicles.
The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined. Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain whether mechanical failure or other factors were responsible for the mishap.
