CMC Seizes Banned Chinese Manja in Cuttack’s Jholasahi During Enforcement Raid

Cuttack: In a significant crackdown, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Enforcement Squad conducted a major raid in the Jholasahi area, seizing four bags of banned Chinese manja thread. The dangerous thread, notorious for causing fatalities and severe injuries, has long been prohibited by the state government.

The operation is part of an intensified joint drive by the police and CMC to curb the sale and use of manja, especially with the kite-flying season approaching. Despite the ban, illegal use of the thread persists, prompting authorities to take strict enforcement measures.

Cuttack district administration had earlier imposed a blanket ban on manja following the tragic death of a minor girl in 2016. The Orissa High Court had also directed authorities to enforce the prohibition strictly.

Appealing for public cooperation, the administration urged residents to avoid flying kites on rooftops, roads, and crowded public places, and noted that designated safe zones have already been identified for kite flying activities.
