CM Mohan Majhi wishes people of Odisha on Nuakhai

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday extended ‘Nuakhai’ greetings and conveyed his warm wishes to the people of the State.
In a video message he said, “Jay Jagannath, Jay Maa Samalei. I congratulate everybody for Nuakhai, symbolised by our culture, prosperity and unity. May this Nuakhai, which has come carrying new hopes, fill your life with happiness, peace and prosperity, this is what I am praying for in the cave of my heart.”
He continued, “The locals staying in other places return to their homes and unite with their families to celebrate Nuakhai. Both Nuakhai and Nuakhai Bhetghat (uniting with family on Nuakhai) hold significance in our culture. This enjoyment and merry making is a unique tradition of Nuakhai.”
Nuakhai, an agrarian, festival is mainly observed by people of Western Odisha to welcome the new rice of the season. Every year the dates get changed as it is observed on panchami tithi of the lunar fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada or Bhadraba, the day after the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
As per the tithi, this year the Nuakhai festival falls on August 28 (Thursday). It has been already announced a public holiday in Odisha. Apart from this the State government also announced August 29 holiday for all the government offices, all schools, colleges and universities across the state.
