CM Majhi Pushes for Better Health, Nutrition and Education

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has called for stronger measures to improve maternal and child healthcare, combat malnutrition and enhance the standard of school education across the state.

During a high-level review meeting under the PRAYAS initiative at Lok Seva Bhavan on Thursday, the Chief Minister assessed the performance of the Health and Family Welfare, Women and Child Development, and School and Mass Education departments.

Majhi instructed health officials to focus on reducing maternal, infant and neonatal mortality. He also stressed the need to improve healthcare facilities for pregnant women and newborns in rural and remote areas, ensure greater accountability among healthcare workers and strengthen emergency medical services.

Reviewing nutrition programmes, the Chief Minister called for intensifying the ‘Suposhita Odisha’ campaign to address childhood stunting and wasting. He emphasised maintaining the quality of food and nutritional supplements distributed through anganwadi center’s, along with stricter monitoring of their supply.

On education, Majhi highlighted the importance of strengthening foundational learning at the primary level. He urged officials to improve students’ learning outcomes and ensure that teachers priorities classroom teaching and essential academic responsibilities.

The PRAYAS initiative aims to identify key challenges in the social sector, assess issues at the grassroots level and develop timely, sustainable solutions to improve public service delivery.
