Class V Student Killed as Concrete Slab Collapses at School in Odisha’s Balasore

Bhubaneswar: A Class V student lost his life after a concrete slab collapsed on him during school hours at Badas Upper Primary School in Baliapal block of Balasore district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Prahlad Dhala. According to reports, the incident occurred during the mid-day meal break when Prahlad was playing with his friends on the school premises. A concrete slab, installed as part of ongoing construction work for a new school building under the ‘Ame Odisha Nabin Odisha’ initiative, suddenly gave way and fell on the student.

Prahlad sustained critical injuries and was immediately rushed to the Baliapal IDCO Community Health Centre. As his condition worsened, he was referred to AIIMS, Remuna, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The tragic incident has triggered shock and grief among locals and the school community. Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the slab collapse and to fix responsibility for the incident.
