CJI Surya Kant Launches India’s First Victim Rights Centre in Patna

Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant inaugurated India’s first Victim Rights Centre in Patna, marking a significant step towards providing comprehensive support to people affected by crime.
The centre has been set up on the premises of the Bihar State Legal Services Authority (BSLSA) and is designed to bring legal assistance and other essential services for victims under a single roof. Its services will also cover victims whose suffering may not always be visible or immediately recognised.
Apart from legal support, the centre will offer psychological assistance, counselling and other victim-focused services to help individuals cope with the aftermath of crime.

The initiative has initially been introduced in Patna district as a one-year pilot project. Based on its implementation and outcomes, the programme is planned to be expanded to other districts across Bihar.
During his visit, Justice Surya Kant will also launch a Transgender Helpline and flag off multi-utility vehicles aimed at strengthening support services. He is also scheduled to deliver a lecture at Lok Bhavan.
