Centre Extends Sugar Import Deadline to Ensure Festive Season Supply

In a move aimed at ensuring adequate sugar supplies across the country, the government has extended the deadline for duty-free imports of one million tonnes of raw sugar to December 31.

The facility is available under the Tariff Rate Quota mechanism. The Finance Ministry confirmed the extension through an official notification, revising the earlier deadline of October 31. The decision is intended to help maintain sufficient sugar stocks in the domestic market during the festive season.
