Central Range Police Act Against Illegal Mining in Seven Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: The Central Range Police have launched an extensive crackdown on illegal mining and the unauthorized transportation of sand and other local minerals across seven districts of Odisha, registering significant enforcement outcomes throughout 2025.

According to official data, the action was carried out between January 1 and December 20, 2025, covering the districts of Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur.

During the period, police registered a total of 1,133 cases related to illegal mining and mineral transportation. As part of the drive, 1,473 vehicles involved in unlawful activities were seized, while 578 persons were arrested. In addition, notices under Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were issued to 1,035 individuals.

Police officials said the intensified enforcement included regular patrolling, checking at vulnerable locations and coordinated operations aimed at preventing the exploitation of natural resources. The measures were undertaken to curb environmental damage and ensure compliance with mining and transportation regulations.

The Central Range Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order while safeguarding the environment and promoting sustainable development across the region.
