Central Agricultural University to Come Up in Sambalpur, Says Odisha Govt

Bhubaneswar: Odisha will soon get a Central Agricultural University in Sambalpur, to be established under the Central Agricultural University Act, 1992. The proposal was discussed on Monday at a high-level meeting held at Lok Seva Bhawan, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and Energy, Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo.
Officials said the university will focus on producing globally competitive graduates and postgraduates in agriculture and allied sciences, while also driving research, innovation, and sustainable farming practices. The institution aims to boost productivity, promote profitable farming systems, and strengthen Odisha’s agricultural sector.

“The varsity will be a game changer for Odisha. It will advance agricultural research, empower farmers, and promote innovation in sustainable farming methods. This decision will ensure food and nutritional security for the people by transforming agriculture and allied professions into profitable enterprises,” Singh Deo said.
The meeting was attended by Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment Department Principal Secretary Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Finance Department Principal Secretary Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar Basith, and OUAT Vice Chancellor Pravat Kumar Raul, among others.
