CBI Files Supplementary Chargesheet in NEET-UG 2026 Paper Leak Case

Probe Concludes; One Additional Accused Named, No Government or NTA Officials Implicated in Leak

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday filed a supplementary chargesheet before a Delhi court in the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case, formally concluding its investigation.

The supplementary chargesheet names one additional private individual and incorporates forensic findings from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), the Government Examiner of Questioned Documents (GEQD) and Delhi University experts. Officials said no government or National Testing Agency (NTA) officials had been implicated in the leak.

The NTA cancelled the examination on May 12 after at least 120 questions in a privately circulated guess paper were found to match the official question paper.

In its initial chargesheet filed on July 28, the CBI named 13 individuals, including three NTA-hired subject experts, along with coaching centre representatives and alleged middlemen. The investigation also flagged the repeated use of the same subject experts during multiple stages of question-paper preparation.

The prosecution relies on statements from 360 witnesses, 422 documents and 43 material objects. Charges include criminal conspiracy, cheating, breach of trust and offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.

Following the investigation, the Ministry of Education initiated reforms within the NTA, including the removal of 50 staff members, replacement of 600 subject experts and introduction of a four-tier question-paper scrutiny framework.
