Bus Conductor Attacked and Robbed at Hinjilicut Terminal in Ganjam

A bus conductor suffered a violent attack and robbery at the Hinjilicut bus terminal in Ganjam district on Saturday morning, raising concerns about rising antisocial activities in the area.

The incident occurred when a private passenger bus from Bhanjanagar to Berhampur (OD07BA 6737) stopped at the terminal to pick up passengers. A group of youths confronted the conductor, hurled abuses, and assaulted him after he resisted their demands. The attackers snatched his gold chain and cash from his pocket.

Witnesses said one of the assailants, identified as Dipu Das of Patana Sahi, struck the conductor’s head with a stone, leaving him seriously injured. The bus helper, who tried to intervene, was also beaten. Local residents rescued the victims, identified as Dipak Gouda of Udrara village and helper Gangadhar Pradhan, and admitted them to Hinjilicut Sub‑Divisional Hospital.

The conductor later lodged a complaint at Hinjilicut police station, alleging robbery and assault. Residents expressed frustration that despite repeated incidents of harassment, extortion, and hooliganism at the terminal, authorities have failed to take effective action.
