Bolangir, Bargarh Declared Naxal-Free: Odisha DGP

Bhubaneswar: In a landmark achievement in its anti-Naxal campaign, Odisha Police has officially declared Bolangir and Bargarh districts as Naxal-free. Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania made the announcement, calling it a historic milestone in the state’s sustained operations against Left-wing extremism.
The declaration comes in the wake of a significant development in neighbouring Chhattisgarh. On Sunday, 15 Maoists active in the Bargarh–Bolangir–Mahasamund (BBM) division surrendered before security forces in Mahasamund district, which shares a border with Bargarh. With their surrender, both Bargarh and Bolangir are now officially free from Naxal activities.

The DGP attributed the success to sustained joint operations carried out over a prolonged period, backed by precise intelligence inputs and close coordination between Central and State security forces. He also acknowledged the crucial role played by local residents in supporting the operations.
“This achievement reflects the courage, restraint, and unwavering commitment of our police personnel,” Khurania said, congratulating all officers and jawans involved in the mission. He also expressed gratitude to the public for their continued trust and cooperation.
The DGP further stated that intensified operations will continue in other affected regions of the state to ensure the complete eradication of Naxalism at the earliest.
