Blackmailed by ex-boyfriend, girl self-immolates with kerosene

Kendrapara: Crimes against women in Odisha continues in a “never-ending cycle” as another girl killed herself by self-immolating herself with kerosene allegedly after being blackmailed by her ex-boyfriend.
The girl, a resident of Pattamundai area in Kendrapara district, self-immolated with kerosene allegedly after her ex-boyfriend blackmailed her with obscene photos and later circulated them on social media platforms.
It is reported that the deceased girl, a Plus Three final year student, had earlier filed a complaint at Pattamundai Police station seeking action against the accused youth. As police allegedly did not take any action against him, she got fed-up and ended her life in the house today by setting herself on fire by using kerosene. She took the drastic step while none of her family members were present in the house.
Speaking to the media person about the tragic death of the girl, her father alleged that they (the deceased girl and the accused) were in a relationship which they ended later. However, the youth used to harass and blackmail my daughter by using her naked photos. “The youth even had threatened to kill my daughter by setting her on fire with the help of petrol. After learning about it from my daughter, we had filed a complaint at the police station but no action was taken against the accused,” he alleged.
“We had reported the matter to the police around 7-8 months ago but instead of registering case and taking action against the accused, my daughter was advised to block him from all communication platforms,” he added.
Ever since the Fakir Mohan College student in Balasore district died after self-immolation, such similar and horrific incidents have started to come to the fore from different parts of the state.
