BJP demands Rs 5 lakh for Japanese encephalitis victim’s kin

Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: The Odisha unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has urged the State government to grant Rs 5 lakh compensation and a pucca building under government scheme to the only daughter of a destitute woman who died of Japanese encephalitis in Kanas bazzar of  Puri district.

The 57-year old woman is one Jyotsna Chowdhury had no shelter and has left behind her only daughter having none to take her care, BJP vice president Samir Mohanty and former MLA from Satyacadi Rama Ranjan Baliarsingh said in a statement here on Friday.

“Following death of 93 children in Malkangiri district the government had declared that Odisha had become totally immune from Japanese encephalitis,” they said while calling upon the government to reassess the situation of the dreaded disease in view of this death in a coastal district.
