BJD calls 8-hour strike in Salepur

Salepur: Biju Janta Dal (BJD) has called for a 8-hour strike in Salepur against the exclusion status of Salepur as NAC. In protest to the inaction over the long standing demand of assigning Notified Area Council (NAC) status to Salepur, the Opposition has called the strike.
The Salepur strike has been called from 6.00 am in the morning till 2.00 pm in the afternoon.
The MLA of Salepur, Prashant Behera has taken charge of the protest. The BJD has blocked the Cuttack-Chandbali main road near the Kuanpala square in Salepur. Several MLAs, members and the general public have assembled to protest against the exclusion of Salepur as NAC.
The protestors have stopped the vehicular movement. School, colleges, shops have all been closed down for the strike.
This comes in the backdrop of the exclusion of Salepur in the proposed list of 12 NACs to be created by the Odisha government which was released on Saturday.
In Angul district Pallahara has been proposed as NAC. In Subarnapur district, Birmaharajpur was proposed.
From Balasore district, Simulia, Basta are likely to be accredited the status of NAC. From Mayurbhanj district, Betnoti, Bangriposi, Chitrada have been proposed to be created as NACs.
In Rayagada district, Bissam Cuttack and in Sambalpur- Bamra and Rengali while in Bhadrak district, Tihidi and Dhusuri will be given the status of NAC, said the proposed list of the government.
There is no name of Salepur in this list which is why the Salepur BJD called for a protest.
