Bird census in Bhitarkanika begins

Rajnagar: The bird census in Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara began today. The bird census will continue for three days.
The bird census was scheduled to begin at 6.00 am and will continue till 12.00 pm. As many as three teams have been constituted for the counting of the birds.
The programme is carried out in Kanika range’s Matha Diya, Laxmi prasad Diya, Durga Prasad Diya. In Rajnagar range’s Bali diya the counting is being done.
The team of ornithologists are expecting a large number of birds in the year.
According to information, 1,51,421 birds of 121 species were counted last year during the bird census at Bhitarkanika in the month of January.
Bhitarkanika National Park houses a number of options for visitors. A museum has been built for the visitors. Tourists can enjoy the park’s stunning natural scenery, spot white crocodiles named ‘Gori’, ‘Malli’ and ‘Sweta’, birds, and experience river rafting and walking on the forest’s skywalk.”
At Dangamala of Bhitarkanika there are 6 fibre boats while in Gupti there are four such boats.
Similar to the previous years, polythene bags have been banned. A watch tower has also been built in the forest block of the National Park. A skywalk has been built, which is 600 metres away from the Meta nursery.
