Bhubaneswar Woman Set on Fire Over ₹150 Debt

Bhubaneswar: A 53-year-old woman sustained burn injuries in a shocking attempted murder incident in the Unit-6 area of Bhubaneswar. The attack, allegedly carried out by an inebriated man, was reportedly triggered by her demand for the repayment of a ₹150 debt.

The victim, identified as Sarojini Pradhan, was sleeping with her children under a plastic tent when the assailant approached around 2 AM. According to reports, he poured petrol on the tent and set it on fire with a matchstick. In the ensuing blaze, Sarojini suffered burn injuries to her right hand but managed to wake up in time to witness the act.

She later identified the attacker, describing him as a man with a visibly damaged eye.

Upon receiving information, personnel from the Capital Police arrived at the scene and rushed Sarojini to Capital Hospital for treatment. An investigation is underway to apprehend the accused and determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
