Bhubaneswar Gunpoint Threat Video Sparks Outrage

Bhubaneswar: Serious concerns over public safety and police oversight have been raised after a disturbing video surfaced online showing a young man allegedly threatening his girlfriend at gunpoint in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows the accused brandishing what is suspected to be an illegal firearm in a public place while intimidating the woman and delivering dramatic, film-style dialogues. The incident reportedly took place near the parking area of the woman’s rented accommodation.

According to preliminary information, the woman seen in the video is a bar dancer originally from Kolkata and is currently working at a bar in Bhubaneswar. The man holding the gun is said to be a resident of the Nimapada area. Sources said the confrontation occurred after the accused spotted the woman sitting in a car with another friend.

What has alarmed viewers and residents alike is the accused allegedly moving around openly with an illegal firearm, threatening and terrorising the woman in a public space. In the video, the man is heard saying, “If I can’t have you, I won’t let anyone else have you,” and “You betrayed me, but don’t you dare touch my brother,” while pointing the gun at her head.

The shocking visuals have triggered widespread outrage and renewed debate over women’s safety, illegal arms circulation, and policing in the city. Many have questioned the apparent delay or absence of immediate police action despite the clear and disturbing evidence captured on camera.

The incident has once again put law enforcement under scrutiny, especially amid existing concerns over illegal drug networks and rising criminal activities. The open display and alleged use of an illegal firearm in a public place have raised serious questions about enforcement gaps and how such activities went unnoticed.

Police are yet to issue a detailed statement on the matter, though sources said efforts are underway to identify the accused and verify the weapon shown in the video.
