Berhampur Man Held for ₹65 Lakh Railway Job Scam

Berhampur: In a major breakthrough, Berhampur Police have busted a job fraud racket and arrested the alleged kingpin, A. Vighneshwar Rao Dora of Kukudakhandi, for duping several aspirants of over ₹65 lakh by falsely promising jobs in the Indian Railways.
The scam came to light after S. Krushnachandra Dora, a resident of Kansamari village, filed a complaint with the police, alleging that he was defrauded by Vighneshwar under the pretext of securing a Railway job. Acting on the complaint, Berhampur Sadar Police launched an investigation that led to Vighneshwar’s arrest on Friday, after which he was produced in court.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused posed as a liaison with senior Railway officials, luring job seekers with fake promises of secure government employment. In one instance, the complainant was even introduced to a man impersonating a senior Railway officer, further solidifying the illusion.
When job offers failed to materialize and Vighneshwar became unreachable, the victim approached the police. The probe revealed that at least six people, including the complainant, were duped of ₹16 lakh, with the total fraud amounting to over ₹65 lakh.
According to police sources, Vighneshwar ran an elaborate and well-orchestrated scam, complete with forged admit cards, fake treasury challans, counterfeit appointment letters, mock medical tests in Kolkata, and simulated examinations—all aimed at creating the appearance of a legitimate recruitment process.
During the arrest, police seized forged Railway documents, fake appointment letters, and other incriminating evidence. Authorities suspect the racket may have operated in other regions as well, and further investigations are underway to uncover the full scope of the scam.
Police have urged job aspirants to remain vigilant and verify recruitment drives through official government portals to avoid falling prey to such frauds.
