Berhampur: Crime Branch Files Chargesheet in Gopalpur Beach Gang Rape Case

Berhampur: The Odisha Crime Branch has filed a comprehensive 574-page chargesheet in the Berhampur Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court in connection with the gang rape of a college student at Gopalpur sea beach.

The horrific incident occurred on June 15 when a young female student from a private college, visiting the beach with a male friend, was allegedly gang-raped by a group of 10 men. The assault took place at an isolated stretch of the beach in Ganjam district after the perpetrators overpowered her companion and brutally attacked her.

The case sparked widespread public outrage and intensified political tensions, with opposition parties sharply criticizing the BJP-led state government over the alarming state of law and order.

All ten accused individuals have been arrested and are currently in judicial custody. The Crime Branch, which took over the investigation, submitted its detailed chargesheet on Monday, outlining the evidence and testimonies collected during the probe.

The case continues to draw significant public and legal attention, with demands for swift justice and stronger security measures across Odisha’s public spaces.
