BCCI breaks silence on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s ODI future ahead of 2027 World Cup

Indian cricket legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s future in international cricket remains uncertain as rumors of their near future retirement from the One-Day Internationals (ODIs) continue to spread. In a recent report, it is alleged that the pair may retire following the tour of Australia later this month in October, potentially signaling the end of their ODI careers.

A BCCI official, however, has played down the rumors, saying that the board is preoccupied with the Asia Cup and the next year’s T20 World Cup preparations. “Of course, if they have any idea, they will inform the BCCI brass as they did before the England Test tour,” said the official. The focus now is on sending the best team possible for the Asia Cup T20 tournament. The report suggests that Kohli and  Rohit, would have to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India domestic List A competition, if they want to play ODIs after the Australia series.

Kohli and Rohit also played for India in the Champions Trophy this year, playing an instrumental role in India’s championship win. With their possible retirement, India would lose two of their veterans in the South African 2027 ODI World Cup. Rumors of granting them a farewell match in Sydney on October 25 were refuted by the BCCI, with no talks yet.
