Badachana Veterinary Staffer in Vigilance Snare

Odisha Vigilance today apprehended Subhasis Samal, Programme Assistant at the Block Veterinary Office, Badachana (Jajpur district), while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a beneficiary under the poultry farming scheme.
The beneficiary had applied for a poultry farm project worth Rs 7.2 lakh in December 2024, eligible for a subsidy of Rs 4.32 lakh (60% of the project cost). The first phase subsidy of Rs 2.16 lakh was released after construction. For the second phase subsidy, Samal allegedly demanded Rs 40,000 (around 10% of the subsidy amount). After negotiation, he reduced the demand to Rs 30,000 and threatened not to process the file unless the bribe was paid.
Acting on the complaint, Vigilance officials laid a trap and caught Samal red-handed at Ganthi Chhak on NH-16 near Badachana while receiving the bribe. The tainted money was recovered from his possession and seized.
Simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to Samal to investigate disproportionate assets. A case has been registered at Cuttack Vigilance PS (Case No. 5/2026) under Section 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.
