Azan to be broadcasted from mobile apps amidst Loudspeaker curbs in Mumbai

Mumbai: After the curb on loudspeakers in Mumbai. Six mosques in Mumbai have turned to a new mobile app, online Azan. The app helps to deliver the call to prayer directly to worshippers’ phone in real-time.

This development came after Mumbai Police commissioner Deven Bharti on Saturday asserted that the city is now entirely free of directional loudspeakers after police has successfully completed a comprehensive crackdown on public address systems at all religious places.

The app has been developed by a Tamil-Nadu based firm, this app streams live azan audio from registered mosques, allowing all Muslims to hear it from home or in quiet places. It is mostly useful during Ramzan when sound restrictions are in place.

During an interview, co-founder of the app Mohammed Ali said that around 250 mosques in Tamil Nadu have registered since its launch. He further stated that “users can simply download online Azan, choose your locality and mosque, and receive live Azan notifications.”

Mumbai congress general secretary has praised this move saying, Prayer is important, not loudspeaker.” BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has also credited the efforts.
