Australia smash records in highest-ever chase in Women’s ODIs

Stats highlights from the ICC Women’s World Cup match between India and Australia in Vizag:

331 The target chased by Australia against India is the highest ever successfully chased in a Women’s ODI match. The previous highest was 302 target chased by Sri Lanka against South Africa in Potchefstroom last year. The previous highest successful chase in the Women’s World Cup matches was 278 runs by Australia against India at Auckland in the 2022 edition.

This is also the second-highest total while chasing in Women’s ODIs, after 369 runs byIndia against Australia in Delhi last month.

661 runs were scored across the two innings in this game, the third-highest match aggregate in a Women’s ODI behind 781 runs by these same two teams in Delhi last month and 678 runs between Australia and South Africa in Bristol in the 2017 World Cup. 13 sixes scored in this fixture are also the most sixes hit in a World Cup match.

142 by Alyssa Healy is the second-highest score against India in ODIs behind 156* runs by England’s Claire Taylor at Lord’s in 2006. This is also the third-highest individual score by a batter while chasing in World Cups after Lanning’s 152* runs vs Sri Lanka in Bristol in 2017, and Nat Sciver-Brunt’s 148* runs vs Australia in Christchurch in the 2022 edition. It is also the third-highest individual score by a captain in a World Cup game, behind Australia’s greats, Belinda Clark’s 229* (vs DEN, 1997) and Lanning’s 152* (vs SL, 2017).

This was Healy’s first ton since the 2022 World Cup final and overall sixth hundred in ODIs – only Meg Lanning (15) and Karen Rolton (8) have scored more for Australia in ODIs. This was also her third in the ODI World Cups – joint most with Meg Lanning and Karen Rolton for Australia.

330 – India’s total against Australia in Visakhapatnam is their highest total in ODI World Cups, surpassing the 317/8 against West Indies in 2022. It is also the third-highest total in Women’s ODIs without an individual century, after New Zealand’s 335/8 against the Netherlands (2002) and England’s 331/8 against Sri Lanka (2019). Seven sixes is the joint-most India hit in a World Cup match alongside their tally against Australia in Derby in 2022.

This is only the second 300-plus total against Australia in ODIs, after India’s 369 while chasing in Delhi last month. India’s 330 is also the first 300-plus score against them in World Cup history. Before this, India’s 292 in New Chandigarh was the highest first-innings total against Australia, with three of the top four highest totals against them set by India.

1062 ODI runs for Smriti Mandhana in 2025 so far, which makes her the first batter to score 1000-plus runs in a calendar year in Women’s ODIs. The second most runs scored in a Women’s ODI calendar year is 970 runs by Belinda Clark in 1997.

In this match, Mandhana scored her fifth consecutive and tenth overall 50-plus score against Australia – the most by an Indian batter against them in ODIs, surpassing Mithali Raj’s nine. Mandhana is the only batter to register five successive 50-plus scores against Australia in Women’s ODIs.

5000 runs for Smriti Mandhana today, and she became the fifth player overall and only the second Indian (after Mithali Raj) to reach this milestone in Women’s ODIs. She is also the youngest and fastest to get there in terms of innings taken (112) and balls faced (5569), bettering Stafanie Taylor (129 innings) and Suzie Bates (6182 balls), respectively.

155-run opening stand between Smriti and Pratika Rawal – the fourth-highest against Australia in an ODI. This is also the second-highest partnership for any wicket against Australia in World Cups, behind 157 runs added by Mithali Raj and Punam Raut for the second wicket at Bristol in the 2017 edition. The 155-run effort by the Indian openers is also the second-highest for first wicket and fourth-highest for any wicket for India in a World Cup match.

4 – This was the fourth 100-plus stand between Mandhana and Rawal this year, which is the joint-most in a calendar year in Women’s ODIs. Only Mithali and Punam Raut have more (7) century partnerships for India. This was the third time both added 150-plus runs this year – the most in a calendar year by any pair.

6 – This was the sixth century (12 innings) stand between Mandhana and Rawal at home – the most by any pair for any wicket, bettering five (in 8 innings) by Australia’s Rachel Haynes and Meg Lanning. Both together added 1141 runs in 12 innings at the home venue for the opening wicket – the most by a pair on home soil, bettering 1090 runs in 17 innings added by England’s Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones. Today was the fifth instance when both opposition openers scored 50-plus in the same innings against Australia in ODIs.

1 – Annabel Sutherland is the first Women’s player to take an ODI five-wicket haul on her birthday. Only Rashid Khan has done it in Men’s ODIs – against South Africa at Sharjah in 2024. Sutherland also became the fourth Australian woman and first since the 1988 edition to pick a five-wicket haul in ODI World Cups.
