Attacks on Government Officials Rise in Odisha; 1,399 Cases Reported in Two Years

Bhubaneswar: A total of 1,399 incidents involving attacks and misbehaviour against government officials were reported across Odisha over the past two years, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the State Assembly on Monday.
Responding in writing to a query by BJD legislator Prasanna Acharya, the Chief Minister stated that 632 cases were recorded during the 2024–25 financial year. The number rose to 767 in 2025–26, indicating an upward trend.

District-wise data revealed that Balasore reported the highest number of cases at 157, followed by Mayurbhanj (99), Puri (98), Cuttack (91), Bolangir (86), and Jajpur (65).
The Chief Minister further informed that the Odisha Police arrested at least 1,318 persons in connection with these incidents during the two-year period.
The figures have raised concerns over the safety of government personnel in the state, even as enforcement agencies continue to take action against those responsible.
