ASI Arrested in Bribery Case; ₹3.31 Lakh, Foreign Currency Seized

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Friday recovered ₹3.31 lakh in cash along with foreign currency notes from Vietnam and Nepal from the possession of Arupa Nanda Das, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Badagaon Police Station in Sundargarh district, who was arrested earlier in a bribery case.
Das was initially apprehended on Thursday for allegedly accepting a bribe. Following his arrest, Vigilance officials conducted searches on Friday at multiple locations linked to him, including his government quarters in Bhubaneswar and his posting place in Badagaon, where the cash and foreign currency were seized.

According to an official press release, Das had allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe of ₹25,000 from a local dhaba owner to assist him in a case and ensure the smooth running of his business.
Officials further revealed that Das had travelled to Vietnam in May last year and was found in possession of foreign currency from that trip, along with currency notes from Nepal.
Based on the findings, Odisha Vigilance registered a case under Rourkela Vigilance Police Station Case No. 1 dated March 11, 2026, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Das was produced before the court on Friday for further legal proceedings.
