Ashoka Buildcon Staffer Gets 3-Year RI for ₹30,000 Bribe in Bargarh

Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Bargarh on Wednesday sentenced Santanu Naik, Liasoning Assistant of Ashoka Buildcon, to three years of rigorous imprisonment for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹30,000 from a landowner.

The court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bargarh, also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on Naik.

Odisha Vigilance had earlier chargesheeted him under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Sections 7 and 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. According to officials, Naik had colluded with a public servant to seek illegal gratification in return for enhancing compensation related to land acquisition.

After examining the investigation and evidence, the court found Naik guilty and pronounced the sentence on December 3, marking another notable conviction for Odisha Vigilance in its crackdown on corruption in land acquisition processes.
