Archery At Asian Games: Indian Women’s Compound Team Wins Gold Medal with World Record
India’s Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep clinched gold in the women’s compound team event at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, defeating China 238-234 in the final. India’s score equalled the world record and was just two points short of a perfect 240.
India had finished second behind China in qualification. Chikitha topped the individual standings with 705 points, while Prithika scored 695. In a tight semifinal, India edged South Korea 235-233.
Jyothi Surekha Vennam
The 30-year-old from Challapalli, Andhra Pradesh, is one of India’s most decorated archers. A former national-level swimmer, Jyothi switched to archery and made her senior international debut in 2011.
She created history at the 2023 Asian Games, winning three golds — individual, team and mixed team — becoming the first Indian archer to achieve the feat at a single edition. She is also a 2023 team world champion, with four World Championship silvers, three bronzes and 11 World Cup stage golds. She received the Arjuna Award in 2017.
Chikitha Taniparthi
The 21-year-old Telangana archer, from a farming family, took up archery after her father read about the sport in
a newspaper. She began formal training in 2018 and turned professional in 2021.
Her breakthrough came in 2025, when she became the first Indian woman to win the Under-21 individual title at the World Archery Youth Championships in Winnipeg. She has since won World Cup team silvers in 2025 and 2026 and an Asian Grand Prix team gold in 2026.
Prithika Pradeep
The 18-year-old from Maharashtra turned 18 just three days before the final. She took up archery as a hobby in Class 5 before beginning professional training the following year.
Since her breakthrough in 2025, Prithika has won seven international medals — one gold, five silvers and one bronze, including an Asian Outdoor Championships team gold and individual silver, along with World Cup team silvers in 2025 and 2026.
