Aanand L Rai and Dhanush to take legal action over AI-Altered re-release of Raanjhanaa

Filmmaker Aanand L Rai and actor Dhanush are planning to take legal action following the AI-Altered re-release of their 2013 film Raanjhaana. The Tamil-dubbed version of the movie named ‘Ambikaapathy’ was recently re-released by the right holder Eros International with an AI-generated happy ending.
According to the sources, the creators of movie were not informed or consulted about this major change. The director shared his disappointment on Instagram by saying, “The past three weeks have been surreal, and deeply upsetting.”
“To watch Raanjhanaa, a film born out of care, conflict, collaboration, and creative risk, be altered, repackaged, and re-released without my knowledge or consent has been nothing short of devastating. What makes it worse is the complete ease and casualness with which it’s been done.” He added.
Aanand is very worried about the impact such changes could have on his other films. Both he and Dhanush are reportedly exploring legal options to protect their creative work from similar interference.
Dhanush also shared his feeling and wrote on X, “This alternative ending has stripped the film of its soul, and the concerned parties went ahead with it despite my clear objection. This is not the film I committed to 12 years ago,”
“The idea that our work can be taken and modified by a machine, then dressed up as innovation, is deeply disrespectful. To cloak a film’s emotional legacy in a synthetic cape without consent, is not a creative act. It’s an abject betrayal of everything we built,” he added.
