Vedanta Aluminium Launches Monsoon Health Drive in Rayagada, Kalahandi

Bhubaneswar: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has rolled out a series of targeted monsoon health initiatives to bolster community well-being in the Rayagada and Kalahandi districts of Odisha. Implemented through its Mobile Health Unit (MHU) programme, the drive aims to address seasonal health risks and strengthen preventive care.

As part of the campaign, over 1,500 residents underwent free malaria testing and received guidance on early symptom recognition, sanitation, use of mosquito nets, and elimination of stagnant water to curb seasonal disease outbreaks. A special preparedness session for 80 women from Self-Help Groups across five villages covered household hygiene, safe drinking water, snake-bite prevention, and first-response measures.

Over the past two years, Vedanta Aluminium’s MHUs have provided quality healthcare to more than 20,000 people in 35 remote villages, organising over 2,000 free health camps. Each MHU is equipped with a doctor, nurse, lab technician, and pharmacist, offering check-ups, screenings, blood sugar tests, medicine distribution, and regular health awareness sessions.

Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Our initiatives go beyond addressing seasonal challenges. We focus on long-term well-being, raising awareness, and ensuring quality healthcare access for all.”

Community member Nabin Naik added, “The awareness sessions have greatly improved our knowledge of health and safety practices during the monsoon. We now feel better equipped to protect our families.”

Beyond healthcare, Vedanta Aluminium supports education, sustainable livelihoods, infrastructure, grassroots sports, and cultural development, working closely with local authorities to drive socio-economic progress.

A business of Vedanta Limited, Vedanta Aluminium produces over half of India’s aluminium, manufacturing 2.42 million tonnes in FY25. It ranks second globally in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024 for the aluminium industry, underlining its commitment to sustainable practices.
