Heavy Rainfall Likely in Odisha as Fresh Low Pressure to Form on August 13

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across several districts of Odisha with the formation of a fresh low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal around August 13.

According to the IMD’s regional centre in Bhubaneswar, the system is likely to develop over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, triggering an increase in rainfall activity across the state.

An Orange Warning has been issued for Koraput and Malkangiri districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected till August 14. A Yellow Warning has also been issued for Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, and Nuapada districts till August 15.

In addition, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds are likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, and Nuapada districts till August 15.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected in parts of Odisha till August 18. Over the past 24 hours, light to moderate rain has been recorded in several areas, with heavy to very heavy rainfall reported in Keonjhar, Kandhamal, and Balasore districts, the IMD said.
