Woman dies of bee attack in Ganjam

Bhanjanagar: In a tragic incident, a woman has died of a bee attack in Ganjam district of Odisha on Friday, said reliable reports in this regard. The incident took place near Gopinathsahi under Belguntha police station jurisdiction in Ganjam. She was reportedly attacked by a swarm of bees while she was picking guavas from a tree.
The bees attacked and stung her badly. She was immediately rushed and admitted to the Bhanjanagar Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition, but died while undergoing treatment.
Recently on April 15, at least 41 students of Badabanga Sevashram at Daringbadi of Odisha’s Kandhamal district were injured in a bee attack. The health conditions of three of the students was said to be critical and all of were admitted to the Daringbadi Community Health Centre (CHC).
According to reports, the 41 inmates of the Badabanga Sevashram were attacked by bees while they were taking bath in the morning hours today.
On being informed, the headmaster of the school rushed to the spot and with the help of other staff admitted the injured students at Daringbadi Community Health Center for treatment.
Meanwhile, it is alleged that a beehive was found near the students’ hotel a few months ago. But none paid any attention to it nor took any step to disperse it, which is why the students were stung by the bees today.
While the incident has shocked everyone in the locality, the local sarpanch expressed concern about this and urged the authorities of the Sevashram to disperse the bees completely from the premises of the institution.
