Father, Daughter Killed in Road Mishap Near Paradip; Locals Protest

Bhubaneswar: A heart-wrenching road accident claimed the lives of a father and his young daughter near Kothiasahi on the Cuttack-Paradip state highway on Wednesday. The victims, identified as Rajkishore Biswal and his 9-year-old daughter Lori Biswal, hailed from Belpur village under Kujang police station limits.
According to reports, the duo was returning home on a motorcycle after picking up Lori from DPS School at Paradip Refinery when a gravel-laden truck (registration number OD 09 7255) coming from Cuttack collided with them. The collision occurred just 100 metres from their residence. Both father and daughter died on the spot due to the severe impact.
The tragic incident sparked widespread outrage in the area. Agitated locals staged a road blockade on the busy Cuttack-Paradip highway, demanding immediate justice and compensation for the bereaved family. The protest led to major traffic disruptions, prompting swift intervention by the local police to calm the situation.
Authorities have since seized the truck involved in the accident and launched an investigation. The driver is expected to face strict legal action, with locals demanding stringent punishment for what they termed as reckless and negligent driving.
The bodies of the deceased were taken into police custody and sent for post-mortem examination. The district administration is yet to announce compensation, but discussions are reportedly underway.
This tragic incident has once again raised concerns over road safety and the movement of heavy vehicles through residential zones.
