Railway Worker Killed, Another Injured in Suspected Maoist Landmine Blast in Sundargarh

Rourkela: A railway worker was killed and another critically injured in a suspected Maoist-triggered landmine blast in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Saturday morning. The incident has sparked panic in the region and disrupted railway services.

The blast occurred around 10 AM near Rengada, where railway personnel were conducting track maintenance work. The deceased has been identified as Etawa Oram, 37, a resident of Bisara village. His colleague, Budharam Munda, sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to Rourkela General Hospital for treatment.

Following the explosion, K. Balanga police reached the site and began a probe into the incident. Though investigations are ongoing, preliminary suspicion points to Maoist involvement, given the nature and location of the blast.

The explosion has triggered widespread concern among residents, with many expressing fear over the deteriorating security situation in the area. Train movement along the affected route has been temporarily suspended.

As of the time of reporting, no senior railway officials had arrived at the site, raising questions about the promptness of the railway authorities’ response. Security has been tightened in the area as investigations continue.
