Eminent Singer Srikant Das is No More

Cuttack: Veteran Odia singer Srikant Das breathed his last on Saturday night at his resident in Sheikh Bazaar in Cuttack. He was 78 and was suffering from age related ailments.
His son Gurupad Das, daughter in law Nibedita Das, daughter Bhaktilata Das, son-in-law Sanasin Raul, and grandchildren were present at his bedside. His last rites will be performed today at Sati Choura, following all other traditional rituals. He was surrounded by his family members during his final moments.
Fondly remembered for his soulful voice, Srikant Das gave Odia music lovers timeless hits like – Bata Chhada Asuchi Dashara Bazaar Medha, Le Labina Tike Pachhaku Ana, Akashara Bukuchi, and Gadi Gadi Gadija Ghataganku.
Born on May 16, 1946, in Matiya Village under Pattamundai in Kendrapara district, he was the son of late Chaitanya Das and Suruchi Sundari Devi. He pursued his education at Ravenshaw Collegiate school, then went on to pursue his intermediate at Stewart Science College and M.S Law College.
Though he worked at UCO bank from 1973 to 2006, but music remained his first love. He trained under legendary singers likes Akshaya Mohanty and Adi Narayan Rao. Inspired by renowned music directors Rakhal Chandra Mohanty and Swaroop Nayak, he went on to become a prominent playback singer in Odia Cinema.
Condolences and sympathy have poured in from fans, fellow artist, and cultural figures, mourning the loss of a golden voice in Odia Music.
