11 yellow anacondas take birth at Nandankanan

Bhubaneswar: In a good news for animal lovers, Nandankanan Zoological Park in Odisha’s capital city has welcomed 11 yellow anaconda hatchlings. This recent birth has increased the total number of anacondas in the zoo to 25.
According to reports, one of the two pairs of anacondas residing in the reptile garden at Nandankanan Zoo gave birth to 11 cubs on Friday, July 4.
This marks the second successful birth in a week, following a female anaconda that gave birth to seven anacondas on June 29.
The pair of snakes was brought to Nandankanan from the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust in Chennai in October 2019.
Currently, the zoo is home to 25 yellow anacondas, comprising two adult males, two adult females, three older cubs, and 18 newborn cubs.
This is the second birth of anacondas in the zoo this week and a significant success in breeding and increasing their numbers. The last time anacondas were born in Nandankanan was in July 2022, making this a notable achievement after a three-year gap.
This is a great success in the direction of breeding and increasing their offspring in Nandankanan — said Sanat Kumar Narayan, Deputy Director of Nandankanan.
