One Dead, One Critical, One Missing as West Bengal Tourists Swept Away at Tajpur Beach

Bhubaneswar: A seaside outing turned tragic for a group of tourists from West Bengal after three young men were swept away by strong sea currents at Tajpur Beach, near Digha. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon and has left one dead, one critically injured, and another still missing.

According to reports, the victims were residents of Barasat in West Bengal’s Medinipur district. The group had initially visited the crowded Digha beach and later moved to the comparatively quieter Tajpur beach.

Ignoring the rough sea conditions and high waves, the three men ventured into the water for a swim. Soon after, they were pulled in by powerful currents.

Onlookers immediately alerted local authorities. Rescue teams managed to pull two of the youths out of the water. However, one was declared dead upon arrival at a nearby medical facility, while the other remains in critical condition.

The third tourist is still untraceable, and a search operation is underway with the help of police and local rescue personnel.

Authorities have urged tourists to exercise caution and avoid venturing into the sea, especially during high tide or adverse weather conditions.
