Odisha govt nays ‘elevated’ metro project in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: There will be no elevated corridor for the metro train projects in Odisha. The metro will be built underground informed Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Sunday.

While speaking to media personnel the Minister informed that the elevated metro corridor needs a thorough survey, thus it cannot be built in Bhubaneswar. He said the elevated corridor will need an alignment which will derail the beautification of the city.

For the elevated metro project survey needs to be done. Keeping this in view the proposed metro rails in Bhubaneswar will be done underground. Currently, the work is underway for the underground railway network.

No new routes have been decided for the proposed metro railway corridor. The Housing and urban development department is carrying out a survey. The survey work will take a lot of time.

The time is not ripe for the elevated metro network due to the logistical and urbanisation issues in Bhubaneswar thus an underground metro project will be built.
