Low-pressure system to intensify into depression today

Bhubaneswar: A favorable low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is likely to turn into a depression today and move northwards, bringing heavy rain to Odisha for the next two days.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in various parts of Balasore, Bhadrak, and Kendrapara districts today, prompting an orange alert for these areas. A yellow alert has been issued for the rest of the state.

Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the sea until tomorrow due to rough sea conditions. The SRC has directed all District Magistrates in the state to remain alert in view of the impending rain.

Notably, the southwest monsoon has arrived early in Odisha, unlike its usual onset in the second week of June. The monsoon has already covered Malkangiri and Koraput districts in south Odisha and parts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Gajapati districts. The current weather conditions are favorable for the monsoon to advance further.
