Elderly Man Trampled to Death by Elephant Herd in Sambalpur

Bhubaneswar: A 55-year-old man was trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants near Majuriapada in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Sunday night.
The deceased, identified as Shyamsundar Pradhan of Chilikama village, reportedly encountered a group of six elephants while cycling back home from Nuamunda village through a forested area.
When Pradhan did not return home, his family launched a search operation with the help of villagers. His body was later discovered near Majuriapada. Forest officials and local police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
Officials said the area has seen frequent elephant movement in recent days. Forest personnel are currently monitoring the herd’s activity to prevent further incidents and ensure public safety.
