Odisha Cancels Leaves of Officials Amid Rising Tensions with Pakistan

Bhubaneswar: In light of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Odisha Government has taken precautionary measures by cancelling the leaves of district collectors, Revenue Divisional Commissioners (RDCs), and IPS officers. The decision comes in response to the ongoing war-like conditions in the western part of the country.

An official notification released by the Odisha General Administration & P.G Department on Thursday stated that all leaves previously sanctioned for RDCs, Collectors, and District Magistrates (DMs) have been cancelled. The notification further directed any officers on leave to return immediately to their respective headquarters and resume duties.

“No further leave shall be granted to any officer during this period,” the statement added.

Additionally, the Odisha Home Department announced the cancellation of leaves for IPS officers until further notice, citing the escalating situation. As per the order, no IPS officer will be permitted to leave their headquarters without prior permission from the concerned Director General (DG) or Special DG.

The heightened tensions began following a deadly militant attack on April 22 in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the brutal killing of 26 tourists, including a Nepalese national. In retaliation, on May 6, the Indian Armed Forces launched precise missile strikes under ‘Operation Sindoor,’ targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan. The operation aims to eliminate terrorist bases in Pakistan and avenge the Pahalgam attack.

The Odisha government’s swift action reflects the state’s preparedness in light of the evolving national security situation.
