Odisha Declares Closure of Schools and colleges from tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Tuesday announced closure of schools and colleges for five days from tomorrow in view of the ongoing intense heatwave conditions across the state. The decision to close Anganwadi centres, Shishu Batika and schools for students upto class 12 for the next five days was taken during a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, informed Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Kumar Pujari.
As per the decision, classes will not be held at any of the government or government-aided or private schools but the students can stay in their respective hostels, the Minister informed. He also warned that action would be taken against the school authorities if they do not follow the order of the state government. The Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, however, clarified that the exams of the students would be held as per their schedule.
Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, School & Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary Satyabrata Sahu, DGP Y B Khurania, Revenue and Disaster Management Additional Chief Secretary Deoranjan Kumar Singh and others joined the heatwave review meeting.
It is to be mentioned here that the weather department has issued yellow warning for intense heatwave conditions for the next five days in the State. Today, Jharsuguda reported season’s highest temperature of 46.2°C.
